With this mix of genetics, every hatch is a little different! Depending on the pairing and traits inherited, offspring can develop a variety of colors, patterns, comb types, body styles, and other characteristics. Future hens may also add some fun variety to your egg basket, with the potential for shades of brown, cream, blue, green, olive, and darker brown.

For us, a good chicken is about more than pretty feathers or colorful eggs. Temperament matters.

We intentionally breed only from docile, gentle roosters and hens that demonstrate the kind of temperament we want to continue in our flock. Our breeding birds are handled daily by both adults and children, so friendliness, manageability, and good behavior around people are especially important to us.

While personality can never be guaranteed in an individual chick, we believe temperament is an important part of responsible breeding. That's why we consider the genetics behind disposition and temperament when deciding which birds become part of our breeding flock.

Prefer to hatch your own little mystery flock? Our Barnyard Mix hatching eggs are collected from hens that may include Barred Rock, Rhode Island Red, Black Copper Marans, Cream Legbar, and Easter Egger, with possible sires including Barred Rock, Jubilee Orpington, or Ameraucana.

Because these are mixed breed chicks, specific parentage, appearance, breed traits, adult size, personality, or future egg color cannot be guaranteed. That's part of the fun—you get to hatch them, watch them grow, and see which traits shine through!

Hatching eggs are collected fresh and carefully selected for incubation. As with all hatching eggs, fertility and hatch rates cannot be guaranteed, since storage, handling, incubation conditions, and other factors can affect development and hatch success.
